Backyard chicken keepers

When the Texas summer sun bears down, your backyard flock feels it. Heat stress can slow egg laying and hurt overall health, and a coop with poor airflow only makes it worse. That is why some chicken keepers in Austin are turning to mini split cooling for an attached shed or workspace, not just the run.

The flat rate

For this room

Even with shade and water, a coop and its adjoining shed can trap heat like a greenhouse. Your birds need a break from that stifling air, and honestly, so do you when you are out there doing afternoon chores. A small ductless mini split can cool that space directly, keeping both you and your flock more comfortable during the worst heat waves.

A dedicated cooling setup in an attached shed or covered coop area does not have to be complicated or expensive. Jester Climate installs mini splits at a flat rate of $2,400 for materials and labor together. That includes the unit, line set, electrical work, and a thorough install. One day each week is Joker Day with a lower price, and the exact Joker rate is posted on the homepage.

To secure your install date, we ask for a $400 materials deposit, and the rest is due when the work is finished. Our crew is licensed and we treat every job with the same care whether it is for a living room or a chicken shed. We will come out and confirm the right BTU sizing for your specific space before we quote anything.

If you are tired of sweating through coop chores and worrying about your hens in triple digit weather, a mini split can turn that space into a manageable retreat. Give us a call or check this week's Joker Day price to see how affordable a dedicated cooling setup can be.

Common questions

What people ask us about this

Can a mini split really cool a chicken coop or attached shed?

Yes, if the space is well insulated and sealed. A ductless mini split is designed to cool a single room or zone efficiently. For a backyard shed or coop area, we size the unit based on the square footage and insulation, then confirm it with an on site visit before install.

Will the cooling help my chickens lay more eggs during the summer?

Extreme heat can slow egg production because the birds are under stress. Keeping the indoor temperature more stable with a mini split can reduce that heat stress, which may help maintain egg laying. Every flock is different, but a cooler environment is always better for their health.

How does your flat rate pricing work if I only need a small unit?

Our standard flat rate of $2,400 covers materials and labor for a typical residential mini split install. The price is the same whether you need a small unit for a shed or a larger one for a living room. For Joker Day, the lower price changes week to week. You can see it on our homepage. A $400 deposit holds your install date, and the balance is due on completion.

Do you install the unit inside the coop itself, or in an attached shed?

We can install the indoor head in either the coop or an adjoining shed, whichever makes sense for airflow and safety. The outdoor condenser goes outside, and we run line sets through the wall. During the site visit, we will talk through the best placement to keep your birds comfortable.

Is a mini split noisy enough to scare my chickens?

Mini splits are very quiet, especially the indoor unit. The fan is gentle and the compressor outside is muffled. Chickens generally adjust quickly to background hum. We have installed units near coops and the birds seem unfazed. If you are concerned, we can place the outdoor unit farther from the coop during the site visit.
