Cooling a Home CrossFit Box
When you have four or five people in a closed garage doing box jumps, rower intervals, and thrusters, the temperature rises fast. The heat from the athletes themselves can make the air feel thick and hard to breathe.
A standard home air conditioner is designed for a family sitting on a couch or cooking dinner. A garage full of athletes doing high intensity work is a different animal. Each person is putting out a lot of heat, and the equipment like rowers and bikes adds to the load.
In a Texas summer, the garage itself is already hot. Add the metabolic heat from several people working hard, and the temperature can climb well above 100 degrees, even past 110 on a bad afternoon. That is not a place where you can push hard safely.

A person doing a moderate workout produces roughly the same heat as a small space heater. Multiply that by three or four people, and you have a lot of heat added to the garage in a short time. The garage walls and ceiling absorb heat from the sun, and the athletes add their own.
The equipment also matters. Rowers and bikes have moving parts that generate friction and heat. The motor on a fan bike can add noticeable warmth. The combined effect is a sharp rise in temperature that a standard mini split has to handle quickly.
