Rubber stall mats help insulate your feet slightly, but they still transfer that low temperature to your body during floor work, benching, or deadlifts. Running a dedicated heat pump continuously or turning it on early heats the air and slowly tempers the top layer of concrete, creating a balanced thermal environment.
How Reversible Heat Pump Technology Works
A mini split does not use electric resistance coils like a standard space heater. Instead, it relies on a reversing valve inside the outdoor compressor unit. During the summer, the system pulls heat out of your garage and dumps it outside. In the winter, the valve flips, reversing the flow of refrigerant so the system absorbs heat energy from the outdoor air and transfers it indoors.
Even when the outside air feels freezing to your skin, heat energy exists within it. Modern inverter compressors compress the refrigerant to raise its temperature before circulating it to the indoor wall unit. This process moves heat far more effectively than burning through raw electric coil power, blowing steady warm air across your squat rack and platform.
Timing Your Warm Up and Setting the Thermostat
Heating a garage gym requires a slightly different routine than cooling it in June. In the summer, powerful airflow cools the space down relatively fast.
