Stand in a Central Texas sunroom at two in the afternoon and you already know. Glass on three sides and an uninsulated roof turn the space into a collector.

East glass starts the load after sunrise. South keeps it going. West finishes it on a long summer day. On a bad afternoon outdoor air is well over 100 degrees, past 110 degrees some days, and the glass adds solar on top of that. Light and heat travel together through clear panes.
The floor and the furniture store that energy and give it back for hours. You can shut the interior door and the slab is still radiating at dinner. A thermostat in the hallway never sees this. Direct sun on glass is a different problem than a shaded, insulated living room.

Why the sunroom is usually left off the central system

The roof that was never insulated
Look up. If the ceiling is the underside of a simple roof, heat is coming down. Dark shingles and metal get hot in Texas sun. That heat conducts and radiates into the room. Nighttime cooldown is slow because the assembly is still warm.
This is not a bedroom with a ventilated attic and a thick layer of insulation. You live right under the deck. Cooling has to offset roof gain and glass gain together. A mini split indoor unit can run for that room alone when the load is high. If the roof can take insulation later, that reduces what the equipment has to remove. Shading and cooling belong together
A mini split does not replace shade. Shade stops solar energy before it becomes room heat. An awning, a tree on the west, exterior screens, or interior shades you actually close all cut the gain. Cooling then removes what got in.
Leaving every blind open and asking the indoor unit to erase the sun all afternoon is a hard fight. Use the room with shades managed. When you leave, close them and let the setpoint float up a bit. Exterior shade works better than interior because the energy never enters. Use both if you have them.

Where the indoor unit can go
Most of the walls are glass, so you hunt for a solid surface. Often that is the house wall the sunroom is built against. A short end wall or a knee wall can work. The head needs a mounting plane, a path for the line set, and a way for condensate to leave.
The outdoor unit sits on a pad, brackets, or a stand with room to discharge air. Layout is part of standing in the room, not a photo.
