Most mini splits require a dedicated circuit. That means a separate line from your electrical panel straight to the outdoor unit. If your home does not have a spare breaker slot or the existing wiring is too small, we have to run a new circuit. This involves pulling wire from the panel to the disconnect switch near the outdoor unit.
The cost for a new circuit typically ranges from $300 to $700 depending on how far the panel is from the installation spot. If the wire needs to run through an attic, crawl space, or finished wall, labor goes up. We give you a firm quote before any work starts so there are no surprises.
Some older homes in Austin, Round Rock, or Georgetown have panels that are full or rated for less amperage than a mini split demands. If your panel has no open breaker slots, we may need to install a subpanel or swap out a few breakers. If the panel itself is outdated, like a 60-amp fuse box, you might need a panel upgrade.
