A line set is made of two copper tubes. One is smaller and carries high pressure liquid refrigerant from the outdoor unit to the indoor unit. The other is larger and returns low pressure gas back to the compressor. These tubes are insulated separately to keep the refrigerant at the right temperature and prevent condensation from dripping inside your walls.
In a standard ductless mini split installation, the line set also includes a communication wire that tells the indoor and outdoor units how to work together. A small drain line runs alongside it to carry away condensation from the indoor unit. All of these are bundled together and protected inside a plastic line set cover on the outside of the house or inside a wall cavity.
