Kiln owners

If you fire a kiln in a garage or outbuilding, you know the heat doesn't leave when the firing ends. It hangs in the air for hours, making the space unusable and pushing your next work back.

The flat rate

One number, materials and labor together

Standard day
$2,400
Materials and labor, installed. Six days a week sit at this rate.
Joker day
Lower, every week
One day a week costs less. It moves weekly, revealed on the homepage.

$400 materials deposit books your day. The balance is due when the work is finished and you're happy with it. Anything outside a standard install is quoted before work begins, never discovered after.

Kiln owners

A mini split does two separate jobs here: it cools the room during the hot Austin summer before a firing, and it pulls the lingering heat out fast after a firing so you can get back to glazing or loading. But the kiln's own ventilation has to work with the cooling, not against it. We size the system to handle that balance, and we confirm the BTU needs on site so the unit isn't fighting your exhaust fan or fighting the afternoon sun coming through the garage door.

Our flat rate is $2,400 for materials and labor together, no surprises. One day each week is our Joker Day, priced lower than that standard rate, and the exact Joker price changes week to week. You can see it on our homepage. To book any day, we ask for a $400 materials deposit to hold the spot, and you pay the rest when the work is finished.

We are a licensed crew. We install ductless mini splits, and we know the difference between cooling a pottery studio and cooling a bedroom. A kiln room is its own animal, and we treat it that way.

Common questions

What people ask us about this

Will the mini split interfere with my kiln's ventilation?

It shouldn't, but the placement matters. We look at where your exhaust fan pulls air and where the kiln sits, then mount the indoor unit so the cool air doesn't get sucked straight out the vent. That's part of why we do an on site visit before we promise a size or a location.

How fast will the room cool down after a firing?

A mini split pulls heat out faster than a window unit or a fan, but we cannot promise a specific time because it depends on the kiln size, the room insulation, and the outdoor temperature. The on site visit lets us match the unit to your actual conditions so it works as fast as possible.

Can you cool a garage that starts at 100 degrees before the kiln is on?

Yes. We size the system for the worst case, which is a hot Austin afternoon with the garage door closed and the kiln off. That way the room is already cool when you start a firing, and the unit has extra capacity to handle the added heat later.

How does the Joker Day pricing work?

One day each week is the Joker Day, and the price on that day is lower than our standard $2,400 flat rate. The Joker day moves week to week, and the exact price is posted on our homepage. You can book it like any other day, with a $400 deposit to hold the date.

Do you guarantee a specific BTU number for my kiln room?

We give you a rule of thumb based on square footage and ceiling height, but we do not guarantee a BTU number until we visit the site. The kiln's heat output, the garage insulation, and the ventilation all matter, and we confirm the right size in person so you are not paying for more than you need or getting less than you need.
