The Slot In The Build Sequence
Rough electrical is first. Circuit and disconnect location are confirmed at the site walk. Insulation goes in with the future line set and drain path left open. Drywall hangs after that path is known.
The working slot is after drywall and before trim. Paint can happen before the head if the wall is protected, or after the head is mounted. Flooring follows. Trim and walkthrough are last.
When The Head Goes Up Too Early
Mount the indoor head before drywall and the taper works around a cabinet. Corners get chipped. Texture does not land clean. The unit sits in dust until the building closes.
Set the outdoor unit before siding, apron, or grading and it gets moved or dinged. Routing that was not confirmed at the site walk gets covered. Reopening a closed wall is non standard. That work is quoted before it begins.
When The Crew Arrives Too Late
After paint, flooring, and trim, every hole is a finished surface. Drywall gets recut and plank gets lifted. The patch is what the client sees at walkthrough.
Covered electrical means a second electrician trip if the circuit was never left. Drain routing through finished walls is guesswork. Confirm routing at the site walk while the cavity is open.
What Preceding Trades Leave Behind

Walkthrough should show a mounted head, a set outdoor unit, and controls in the builder's hand. It should not show an open chase, a dripping drain, or a cover that does not sit. That is the point of the drywall to trim slot.
